Our History
Tim Pierson first met Sal Vitale in fourth grade when they were in the same class. Tim had recently moved to Harrison Township from St. Clair Shores, and Sal was one of his first friends. Over the years, they became best friends, sharing spring breaks, weekends, and countless Euchre nights. Sal stood by Tim's side at his wedding, and Tim had the honor of standing at Sal's.
Sal initially worked for his uncle in home construction, and eventually, Tim hired him to oversee the expansion of their office, a project that more than doubled the size of their building. The project took about a year, and afterward, Sal joined Quality Lumber, selling building products and designing kitchens. Despite his new role, Sal continued building one or two homes a year on the side, always searching for property or fixer-uppers in the St. Clair area.
When Sal came across vacant land in River Pointe Estates with 18 lots for sale, the two decided to partner and purchase all of them. After successfully building and selling homes on those lots, they acquired land to the north, developed Phase 1 with 26 lots, and are now wrapping up Phase 2 with 17 lots.
It has been a fantastic partnership, and Tim feels fortunate to have a lifelong best friend as his business partner. Despite the years that have passed, they still get along as if they were back in high school.
Pointe Development Group was born from a need of custom homes and developments in St. Clair County, Michigan. Tim Pierson and Sal Vitale, two buddies since childhood harnessed their individual experience in home building to create Pointe Development Group in 2019. Our goal is to make your dream of building a custom home an easy experience, from your first contact until the last cupboard is installed. From a 20,000 square foot design showroom at Quality Lumber to various home designs, your dream home is closer than you think!

Meet Our Team

Owner
Tim Pierson
My father, Dick Pierson, founded Pierson Gibbs Homes in 1984, working out of our family garage in Harrison Township. In 1987, he established Quality Lumber to secure better materials for the building company. I have been involved in the family business from a young age, helping with loading and unloading trucks after school in our backyard.
My career began in 1985, working at Gowanie Golf Club, where I caddied and maintained golf equipment. I graduated from L’Anse Creuse High School in 1989 and pursued studies in architecture and accounting at Macomb Community College. In 1991, I joined Quality Lumber, initially managing deliveries and organizing materials, while also handling drafting work before the advent of computer-aided design.
Over time, I expanded my skills, learning the accounting and bookkeeping aspects of the business, as well as managing construction projects for Pierson Gibbs Homes. This hands-on experience gave me insight into every facet of the building and building supply industries.
In 2002, I was appointed president of Quality Lumber. Under my leadership, we evolved from simply supplying materials to the public and builders to partnering with local contractors to provide installed sales. This shift significantly boosted our operations, and today, we install more than half of the products we sell. Our expertise has grown to include kitchens and baths, windows, flooring, trim, doors, and even a dedicated division for home additions.
I currently oversee all aspects of the business and am proud of the progress we've made as a company.

Owner/Builder
Sal Vitale
It's a no-brainer for Tim and I to be business partners because we share common goals—primarily, moving the project forward. We have a similar thought process, which simplifies everything. While we took different paths in life, our experiences have complemented each other well. Tim became highly effective at running businesses and making investments, while I focused on construction management and hands-on building.
After a short time away, I returned to build the addition for Quality Lumber, and eventually, I stayed on as a salesperson for Tim's company. It was during this time that I felt I became a well-rounded builder. I already had hands-on experience with construction, but I lacked knowledge about the quality of the materials we used and how they impacted the final product. Working at Quality Lumber gave me that insight.
When the housing market crashed in 2007, I shifted to flipping houses while continuing to work for Quality Lumber. After a few years, property values were so low that I managed to purchase three vacant lots from a bank. At the time, it was almost unheard of to build new homes in St. Clair in 2011—people thought I was crazy. To be honest, the first house took a while to sell, and at first, they seemed right. But then the second house sold before it was finished, and the third followed suit.
I quickly approached Tim about expanding our operation, and the rest is history. The biggest factor in our success is what I learned at Quality Lumber and from Tim's dad, Dick: Sales. If you can't sell it, you're wasting your time. Dick was exceptional at sales, and our success has come from truly listening to our customers and creating a complete package that turns what is usually a stressful process into a fun and exciting experience.
